Tactics in WAR are unique abilities that you obtain as you progress through the game. There are three different types of tactics and three different ways to obtain them:

General tactics are tactics that can be used in both PvE and RvR. An example of a general tactic is the Hard as Nails I tactic. This tactic increases your character's toughness by 3 points. There are also 2 more additional ranks of the same tactic that can be purchased. General tactics can be obtained from a trainer and just like skills and abilities they are split between core tactics and mastery tactics. Core tactics are available to all characters of that career while mastery tactics will only be available to characters who choose to specialize in that mastery. General tactics can also be bought using renown points obtained from RvR.

RvR tactics are tactics that can only be used in RvR combat. Examples of RvR tactics are the Ironbreakers Ancestral Hatred tactic which increases damage against Greenskins, and the Black Orcs I Hates Stunties tactic which increases damage to Dwarfs. RvR tactics can only be purchased with renown points.

Tome tactics are tactics that can only be used in PvE. They are called "Tome" Tactics because they can only be unlocked through the Tome of Knowledge.

Before entering into a battle, tactics are chosen and slotted into the strategy bar according to what you feel will be most useful in the upcoming fight. Some tactics will take up more space on the strategy bar than others; presumably because they are more powerful. This gives players more of an ability to customize their characters and make them unique, as well as adding another layer of strategy. The player is also able to save certain sets of tactics giving them the ability to switch between sets. Switching tactics is done through a simple drop down menu in the UI.

As you progress through the game, you gain many tactics abilities. They are divided into three sub-categories, General (Career Tactics), RvR (Renown Tactics) and PvE (Tome Tactics). The catch, however, is that you can only slot (use) a limited number at a time: 4 General, 2 RvR and 1 PvE.
